Artist Biography

Sparky Miller

Sparky Miller was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1971. He grew up in the Texas Hill country during the 70's and 80's, where he eventually enlisted in the military in the fall of 1992.

It was here, while serving in the Navy that Sparky felt led to paint and draw what he believed to be divine messages from above. These "sermons on canvas" were meant to reach souls and hearts through the visual eye rather than the normal sense of hearing the word. He had the revelation that many people were not hearing the word and that God wanted them to literally "Get the picture."

But the new artist faced major troubles as he pursued his calling. Unlike the average college educated artist, Sparky's studio environment usually consisted of combat zones and hot LZ's around the world. It was no easy task trying to paint some of God's messages while being deployed with a military police unit. It's not real easy to find a Michael's Arts and Crafts store in Iraq or obtain a comfortable drawing easel on the dirt runways in Columbia.

It was no doubt a miracle that he was able to complete any form of art. He attributes his success to the basic faith that God has a higher plan for each of us. Sparky explains, "God never stops trying to reach us. If we are listening, He can speak to our hearts through people, through music, events, animals, nature, and even through... ART."

He believes that he was given a gift to become one of God's many paintbrushes. He states even if he failed at his calling, God is still faithful in trying to reach people through what he paints because the paintings speak for themselves. The messages in the paintings stand regardless if the painter falls . . .

Currently Sparky spends his time working on new forms of artistic expression and finding inspiration in the natural world around him.

"I would rather paint one painting of understanding that can help others than 10,000 paintings with no meaning! If it's divine, then its ART, if it's not divine then it's just a messy picture! Look at the real artist GOD ALMIGHTY; no one can paint a sky like GOD!"
